Boat procession

A procession of boats is a yearly recurring event in Alphen aan den Rijn. They travel on the Oude Rijn (Old Rhine) which flows right through Alphen.

The procession has gained a fixed place in the party week in september and takes place on the tuesday evening preceding the annual fair. It is organized by many volunteers, supported by businesses from Alphen aan den Rijn. The event is now solidly founded in Alphen’s festivities and was organized for the first time in 2003. After the procession has ended a musical performance is staged at the Oudhoornseweg.

The boats assemble between 19:00 and 19:45 hrs near the Rijnhaven bridge/Gnephoek and subsequently travel up and down the Oude Rijn (Old Rhine).
