Alphen is surrounded by various rural areas which all have their own attraction and character. The Nieuwkoopse Plassen with water sports and around it ample posibilities for cycle runs. For bicycle rides you can also use the routes along the small river De Meije ,  in the Veenweiden and the Wijk en Wouden. Furthermore the Rietveld with its fine location, where you can  cycle, but is especially suitable for walking. Within the bounderies of Alphen you will find the Zegersloot area, with many recreational facilities, such as water sports (sailing, canoeing, swimming, water skiing), walking and, cycling.
