Alphen aan den Rijn offers of a variety of cultural establishments; all located in or near the town centre.

There are two cinema’s, close to each other on either side of the Alphen bridge, with three and four movie theatres each. For the lovers of special movies there is also the Filmhouse in Park Rijnstroom where volunteers show movies to a small audience.

Small scale and experimental theatre performances are staged in a former church hall in Park Rijnstroom.This hall  triggered the construction of the present Castellum theatre, which can accomodate large performances in two large halls with 300 and 750 seats. 

Alphen aan den Rijn will house two museums after the merger with Boskoop and Rijnwoude on january 1st, 2014. Archeon in Alphen and the Tree Nursery Museum in Boskoop. In Archeon provincial archeological finds are exhibited while the Tree Nursery Museum will show the development of tree nurseries through the ages.
